Keiki O Ka Aina honors mothers at women's prison Kids Day

Mothers and their children play tug-a-war at the women's prison annual Mothers Day
festivities sponsored by Keiki O Ka Aina.

Kailau, Hawaii - Quickly becoming a regularly scheduled activity of Keiki O Ka Aina's mentoring program, this Kids Day at the Women's Community Correctional Center in Kailua was to honor the incarcerated mother's with a Mother's day event. Normaly only available to current incarcerated mothers, this Kids Day was opened up to let incarcerated grandmothers the chance to spend time with their grandchildren.

This brought a lot of attention to the event with the Star Bulletin, KHON Channel 2, KITV News 4 media crews at the event to publicize the event.

As usual, the on-staff chef and some of the work crew put together a beef teriyaki, home-made mac salad lunch to feed all of the inmates, guests, and Keiki O Ka Aina staff.

Keiki O Ka Aina set up games, crafts to make mother's day cards, kite making, fishing for prizes, tug-o-war, and portriats of mothers and their keiki.

Keiki O Ka Aina adds new Healthy Marriage program

Against the backdrop of Keiki O Ka Aina's loi and outdoor classroom, the Healthy Marriages
program begins with it's first session

Honolulu, Hawaii - Keiki O Ka Aina has teamed up with the National Healthy Marriage Resource Center to help 'Strenghthen Families, Communities, and a Nation - One Marriage at a Time'. The Healthy Marriages program compliments Keiki O Ka Aina's other program to strenghthen families and the community by offering this unique program to married couples that are part of our other programs.

Kailua, Hawaii - Keiki O Ka Aina hosted a Christmas in January for the inmates of the Kailua's Women's Community Correctional Center and their keiki. Originally scheduled for December and rescheduled due to bad weather, the 'Kids Day' invites the children of incarcerated parents to spend a day of theme based fun and activities with their mothers.

Along with staff to work the event, Keiki O Ka Aina provides the crafts, games, activities, and gifts that are used during the event. The mothers are able to spend quality time with their keiki and have fun with the games and activities. A super lunch of burgers, hot dogs, fresh french fries, and handmade cookies are provided by the Correctional facility for everyone that attends.

Santa Claus also made a special January trip to visit the incarcerated mothers and their children. As usual, he comes bearing many gifts for everyone. Fake snow also brought out the kid in everyone when the snow gets thrown around like the real thing.

Bags to carry the gifts and prizes in were donated by Oakley.

Keiki O Ka Aina sponsors these Kids Day events 2-3 time a year at the correctional facility. Keiki O Ka Aina also provides portrait photos to make personalized calendars and keepsakes of the mother and children together.

Honolulu, Hawaii - Keiki O Ka Aina was on hand at the Oahu malls for this year's annual Lokahi drive to provide support in handling the donations that are generated during the drive. Numerous Keiki O Ka Aina employees volunteered their time to be available to help with the many boxes of toys and other donations that were given. Keiki O Ka Aina also voluteered to help at the new Lokahi warehouse to handle the distribution and stocking of the many donations.

As the fiscal sponsor of Lokahi, Keiki O Ka Aina provides all the background administrative support for Lokahi operations to take place.
